Turkey-Syria Earthquake Fundraising Event
On February 6th, 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Turkey and northern Syria, causing widespread damage and leading to more than 36,000 deaths.
Warcraft Logs is partnering up with Raider.io, Raidbots, Liquid Women in Warcraft, and various content creators for a fundraising effort to show our support!
The Charity
The chosen charity for this fundraiser is Direct Relief. Direct Relief has sent more than 22 tons of medical aid from the U.S. and Europe for Turkey and Syria since the earthquake struck, including medication, field medic packs, and hygiene items for people displaced from their homes. The organization has also committed $3 million for response efforts, including $100,000 for the leading search and rescue team in Turkey and $100,000 for the Syrian American Medical Society, which operates health facilities in northwest Syria. The region has a large population of internally displaced people and refugees who are at particular risk of disaster.
Direct Relief is working to mobilize medical aid deliveries to address immediate medical needs. Over the next few weeks, they will continue to provide medical items needed to treat a range of injuries and to ensure a continued flow of care items to help people with chronic health conditions while local resources are reallocated for emergency response.
